Ben studied Modern Languages at Durham University before embarking on postgraduate vocal studies as an ABRSM scholar at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. As a founder member of the group, Ben currently combines Quintessential Voices with a Lay Clerkship at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle and a busy freelance diary. He is no stranger to the QV style, having sung with the barbershop group 'Quintessence' (!) as a student in Durham and being a regular member of male-voice quartet Oxford Liedertafel. With its varied and exciting repertoire, Quintessential Voices is the perfect complement to daily services in the Chapel and Ben enjoys discovering new and charming local venues to sing in whilst on Church or Village crawls!
As an accomplished freelance singer, Ben works regularly with the Monteverdi Choir, Tenebrae, The Sixteen and many other leading ensembles. He appears frequently on CD and in television and radio broadcasts, including the BBC Proms. Engagements have taken him abroad throughout Europe, the Isle of Man and the USA, and he has appeared on stage in the Salle Pleyel, Paris, The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Sadler's Wells.
On the concert platform Ben boasts an extensive song and Oratorio repertoire spanning almost a millennium. In 2010 he recorded, as tenor soloist, Giles Swayne’s Stabat Mater and world premiere The Silent Land with Dmitri Ensemble on the Naxos label. Ben continues to study with tenor, Ryland Davies. In his spare time he enjoys walking, fine dining and the odd day at the races.
